The Differences Between Trade-Show Shipping and Exhibit Shipping
TRADE SHOW SHIPPING VS. EXHIBIT SHIPPING
Trade show shippers or exhibit shippers specialize in moving components used in trade shows or exhibit. In order to determine the difference between trade show shipping or exhibit shipping, it’s necessary to identify the services each shipping company provides.
DETAILS OF TRADE SHOW AND EXHIBIT SHIPPING
Shippers who advertise trade show shipping or exhibit shippers usually offer very similar services. These services include the following twelve services or products:
- color-coding of boxes for easy identification in a conference room or warehouse,
- operating as a liaison between trade show management and the exhibit customer,
- knowing all the packaging requirements of each trade show component,
- lift-gate and forklift services,
- climate-controlled trailers to protect temperature-sensitive equipment,
- checklist of all boxes and a detailed inventory list of the components in each box,
- overseeing all material handling forms,
- helping exhibit customer condense the size of booth to save on shipping costs,
- precise measurement of each item’s weight and size to save on shipping costs,
- processing of bill of lading,
- able to contact exhibit customer regarding any emergencies or unexpected situations,
- property insurance.
In addition to the above services, shipping and exhibit shipping companies offer three specialized services: on-the-hour deliveries, storage, and on-site representation.
ON-THE-HOUR DELIVERIES
Most general shipping companies make their delivery on a certain day or within a four-hour window. Trade show shipping companies or exhibit shipping companies provide deliveries manage their deliveries according to when the tradeshow management company accepts deliveries when the exhibit customer needs them. For instance, if an exhibit customer needs the delivery in time to setup and get ready for a show on Saturday morning, but the trade-show managers only allow deliveries on Fridays, then the exhibit shipping company might coordinate the delivery on Friday and relay exact delivery details to the exhibit customer. If an exhibit customer needs a delivery exactly at seven o’clock on Friday, the trade show shipping company or exhibit shipping company will make the delivery exactly when the customer needs it.
STORAGE
Another important service trade show or exhibit shipping companies offer is storage. They can pack an exhibit customer’s inventory and store it until the trade show is scheduled for deliveries.
ON-SITE REPRESENTATION
Trade show or exhibit shipping companies provide a shipping representative who can remain on site and assist an exhibit customer with finding their deliveries, troubleshooting, assembly, and disassembly, and when the show is over, packaging. These services are invaluable for any exhibit customer who wants to focus on the exhibit and not the shipping.
IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?
Shippers often advertise as being either trade-show or exhibit shippers; however, the terms trade show and exhibit are used interchangeably, and the services each type of company provides are the same.
The only difference is in terms of the parties involved. For instance, trade show management are the people who manage the building in which the show will take place. Exhibit customers are the people who will rent a booth and display their services or products.
